Resolved Question

Which laptop is better for light gaming?

Jul 14, 2016 3:36PM PDT

Hello! I'm new to this forum Grin

I wish to know which of these two laptops can give me a better perfomance in games (not super heavy ones, mostly online ones like TERA and things like that. Also games offline like Fallout 4 or Skyrim)

The specs:
1) Dell Inspiron 15.6 5555
CPU: AMD A10-8700p
RAM: 12GB DDR3
GPU: Radeon R6 8700p
HDD: 1TB

2) Dell Inspiron 15.6 3543
CPU: Intel Core i5 5200u
RAM: 4GB DDR3 (I will upgrade this)
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 1gb 820m and Intel HD 5500
HDD: 500GB

I read that the Carrizo CPU has this range of watts of 15-35 that prevent the CPU to function properly and run some games very very slow. The i5 doesn't seem to have this issue but the other specs are worse than the 8700p.

Could you guys help me choose this one please? I'm planning to use it for college and some light gaming (as I stated before) on weekends or vacations.

(Please don't tell me that I should save and buy another laptop or try another one, I just want to know which one would suit better) Also if there is a solution for changing the watts of the 8700p please I would appreciate if someone posted it! Thanks Grin

Thanks for the fast answer! May I know the reason for you choosing i5 and not AMD A10?

The CPU features came in real handy when we ran VirtualBox.

Then I guess the i5 will lag less than A10 in games. Thanks a lot for the answer, I'm going to buy the i5 !

It's very close but the i5 in my opinion won this round on CPU features.

Maybe Dell Inspiron 3543...

If I were you, I will look at Dell Inspiron 3543 because of core i5 5200u CPU and dedicated GTX GPU, yet if you want to play Fallout 4 with high setting, you should consider about mainstream GPU like GTX970M. As far as I know, there are many options on Mobile Advance and Xotic (I assume you will buy it in US). The MSI and Dell are all good gaming brand in the global.
