which laptop is best for a budding graphic artist?

hey
i'm a budding photographer/graphic artist, and DESPERATELY need a new laptop. however, my budget is basically non-existent. so my question is two-fold: which laptop would best suit my needs--i hope to stick with graphics and photography as a career path, but as of now i'm still learning--and why-i'm not incredibly knowledgeable about computers so please explain in laymans terms if possible...the second part is which computers are cheao (1000 is my absolute max) and possible payment plans....thanks so much!
