Question

Which laptop?

Aug 9, 2015 3:19PM PDT

I'm unsure of which laptop i should go with between two choices!
Hoping someone can help me out and decide, or knows of any major floors in either of them i can be aware off!
First one is an asus: http://www.amazon.com/GL551JW-DS71-15-6-Inch-GeForce-Discrete-Graphics/dp/B00T7XRH2A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439158643&sr=8-1&keywords=Asus+GL551JW-DS71

Second is an MSI: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-GE72-Apache-027-17-3-Core-i7-4720HQ-16GB-DDR3-NVIDIA-GTX-965M-Gaming-Laptop-/181658628001

Any help to make me decide which laptop to go for would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Happy

Clarification Request
Very different machines.

One looks to be 15" and the other 17" While the 965m should win game benchmarks, I never tell folk to Ebay such things.

Also, the move to Windows 10 is proving hard on some folk. Make sure it is shipping with 10 and not 8 with promises.

windows 10=meh

At the moment upgrading to windows 10 is not priority but thanks for the heads up!
My problem is like you said, the 965m is better but as it is a 17inch screen will it require a better gpu to get the same performance as a smaller screen with slightly worse gpu?

Also the actual build quality of the msi seems to be a bit poor according to reviews! What did mean buy never telling folk ebay such things?

Thanks for the help!

It's the dots, not the inches.

Let's hear what size display you want and 15 is for everyone, students etc. 17? Those that leave it on the desk. You learn this after too many folk whine about traveling with 17s.

Down to size?
Aug 10, 2015 9:20AM PDT

So are you saying its just down to what size i would want?

I'd select the size first.

If you plan on leaving it on a desk, then big is nice.
If you are a student, 17 is a PITR. Not advised at all.

After that I see both GPUs and specs are very close. But until you pick the screen size it's a toss up.

Answer
Personal Experience, Asus Rog
Aug 12, 2015 9:16PM PDT

Hey felix_h97,

Looks like both of the options are actually pretty decent. My first bias would be to say to go with the Asus Rog because of three reasons.

1. I've owned and gamed on one and loved it
2. Asus Rog has a reputation for being a great gaming laptop
3. I would be much more comfortable purchasing a laptop from Amazon then Ebay.

The specs are quite similar, of course the ROG has the 15.6 VS the 17.3 which could be seen as a downside, but I actually enjoy a little tighter gaming laptop.

After some research, then here's an article going against my first judgement. This shows a "MSI GT80 Titan" above the newer Asus ROG.

Good luck!
