Decide: Quality or ease of use.

The hard disk unit which I will not be grinding my words here is simpler in that it creates MPEG video files of so-so quality but wins in ease of use. miniDV wins the video quality but many learn about firewire only by first hand experience. The choice here is ease of use or more video quality.

As to pictures, take shots and compare. My experience is that all camcorders pale in comparison to my digital cameras when it comes to photos, but it beats having no camera.

That's grinding it fine.

To compare 3CCD cameras you head to Cnet reviews or dvspot.com to see how the 2 units compare. The #1 area that everyone seems to ask about is low light performance. My stock answer is there is no performance in low light. However, you can get "something."

dv or dvd?
Nov 11, 2005 11:44PM PST

I'm about to purchase my first digital camcorder. I've spoken to a few retailers and they tell me that I would get more BANG for my BUCK with a minidv than a minidvd. General quality being about the same, but more features for the $ with a minidv.

I have a Sony handy cam dcr-hc42. I believe my options are fun. The Windows xp movie maker devides the movie by every pause to the recording. You can clip out shots from the movies. The memory stills are greet for web pages and can, of course be pulled into any of your favorite editors. I have not yet made a home dvd yet. Tip: buy the firewire online. I paid under $10 including shipping.

I just bought the hard disk JVC, and I'd say many you should go for something else, since the quality of the image is really poor, especially once viewed on your tv. On my pc, the sound was terrible..and you can't really view it through media music player.
Hope this helps even though its a late reply.

JVC mini CV

I bought a JVC mini CV camcorder about a year ago and am reasonably satisfied with the quality. I see reasonably because I was expecting movie style dvd quality (from a
