Resolved Question

Which is better DD, DTS or Multi-Channel?

by PastryMan / July 1, 2013 7:43 AM PDT

When I put a bluray in my player, I sometimes have a choice of setting the audio to Multi-channel mode vs Dolby Digital or DTS. What's the better choice? When set to Multi, I notice the AL24 logo lights up on my Denon receiver.
Thanks for any info!

Thanks for the post Bob. Seems I had my bluray player set to 'PCM' instead of 'Bitstream', so it was coming through the receiver as 'multi-channel'. I set it back to bitstream and have DD and DTS as options again. This is a good article on the differences. Sounds like there's not much difference unless you want 'secondary' audio to be audible. http://www.hometheater.com/content/pcm-vs-bitstream

I pick multi-channels because of...

AL24 which means it is capable of hi-def sound. The other 2 are not hi-def. or at lease you did not indicate so.

the other 2 are just DD and DTS. Give it the hearing test and let us know what you think.
