which is a secure and stable linux distro or unix

i would like to get advice which is secure and stable linux distro or unix os. i tried before Mint linux distro but i was getting slow to start up or shot down. i would like to try a linux distro or unix os that encrypt and files and the internet traffic and it is hard to hack or slow down.

I'm running F16 on my laptop and can say it's a well stable and secure environment, it's also good use for certifications like RedHat for instance, Fedora is sponsored by RedHat alongside the RH Enterprise suite it offers.
