Which HD4870 X2 is better (if there's a difference)?

by Nihilo90 / August 21, 2009 2:57 AM PDT

I'm building a new system and planning on using a Radeon HD4870 X2 graphics card. I ordered the XFX one (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/2GB-XFX-HD-4870-X2-PCI-E-20-3600MHz-GDDR5-GPU-750MHz-1600-Cores-CrossFire-2x-DL-DVI-I-HDTV) but I've been waiting for it to come back into stock for two weeks so I'm thinking of getting the Sapphire card instead (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/2GB-Sapphire-HD4870X2-PCI-E-20-3600MHz-GDDR5-GPU-750MHz-1600-Cores-CrossFire-2x-DL-DVI-HDTV). Is there much difference between the two or is it simply price/warranty stuff?

The second link failed.

So I can't compare them but I've had other models of similar boards and didn't notice any different save one and even then it could have been a fluke. One unit the fan failed in days. So back it went.

Well the main difference seems to be that one of them has a 404 not found link. Judging from the URL, though, I assume one used to point to an XFX 4870 X2 and the other was a Sapphire 4870 X2. Clock speeds and memory were the same, so it looks like you're looking at an identical card made by two different manufacturers.

For my money I would usually go XFX over Sapphire because warranties are usually better, but the Sapphire cards seem more popular in this model. I have a feeling these customer reviews might help:
