I wouldn't care about the compiler. I would care about the development tool.

There are development tools specific for iOS and Android, and there are the OS-independent tools that generate OS-specific apps from a common source. There's the first choice you have to make.

Both Google and Apple have free dev tools,

The thing about your iOS work is you'll want to get an Apple computer to run the tools on. Sometimes I find a new developer that flames out at that step.
