Question

Which camera to get for a child.

Dec 6, 2011 12:24PM PST

My son is nearly 10 years old and begging for his own camera. He enjoys doing stop motion animation and I'd like to get him a point and shoot that would be good for this application. I also plan on helping set up a little stage area with diffused light and tripod. I am on somewhat of a budget.

Thanks for your response. I would like to spend around $100. I've checked out the Sony Cyber-Shot and the Canon Power shot A2200, but am open to suggestions. I've made my own light box set up and figured we could work on one together. I'm just not sure what camera would be best for the stuff he would be doing.

Many people have made their own light box.
The key thing when doing that type of photography is to use a tripod, so a tripod should be on your "to do" list.
The ideal camera for the job will cost a bit over $200, but on a tight budget the Canon A2200 will do.
But see if you can stretch the budget and get the A3200 instead.
The A3200 has optical image stabilization and the A2200 does not.

Image Stabilization will come in handy when hand-holding the camera in normal everyday photography.
It cuts down on blurred images caused by camera motion.
