i cant decide between the canon powershot s80 and the canon g6. i want to make good picture with a good quality and i want to use the camera for a long time. The thing is someone told me that g6 just makes better pictures because of the lens but would it really differ that much from the s80.

The main difference is
Nov 3, 2005 3:37AM PST

That the Canon S80 is the editors choise. It will shoot good j-pegs and thats all it shoots. Olympus came out with it first and it has the same features. It is the Stylus 800. The Stylus is weather resistant though. Read what the people who have bought one say before you decide by c-net.

Canon G6 an S80

The S80 is new and so far I have not seen any reviews for it.
The S70 received very good reviews and I would expect the S80 to do the same.

Here is the press release of the S80:

The S80 is smaller than the G6.
One of the standouts for the S80 is that it has a wideangle lens (28mm). Which makes it good for taking photos of more people in a confined area.

The G6 has a 35mm lens that is exceptionally bright (f2.0). This gives it an advantage in low light photogaphy. The G6 also has a swing out LCD that many people like.

Both cameras take excellent photos.
You will be pleased with either camera.
