Which camera is best?

I want a fairly compact camera, 3-4 megapixels, and around $300, but would sacrifice a little size for a broad feature set (manual controls, scene modes, etc). I looked at the Powershot A75 and Coolpix 3200. I liked the Nikon's size, but it didn't have any manual control and the screen was small. I looked at the A80 too but it looks like a new one will come out soon. I also am considering the Kodak DX7440. The Kodak is looking the most appealing right now, but I don't know how large it is compared to the Canons and the Nikon. Which is best?

At that price point, it's a rough call. This morning compgeeks.com had their sunrise sale going on and the camera I noted at http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-7593-0.html?forumID=58&threadID=31537&messageID=360416&tag= was all of 268 bucks. That's a 4 megapixel with 10X zoom, burst mode, some manual control, nice LCD, camera dock, battery and all refurbed by Kodak. I like mine and am getting better at what can be done with it.

Keep shopping,

Bob

The price range of $300 and below is made up mostly of point-and-shoot cameras.

The Canon A75 and Kodak 7440 is pretty much it, for intermediate cameras in that price range.

Both take good pictues, and you will probably be pleased by either.

Kodak has not had a reputation for photographer's cameras. They have mostly targeted the point-and-shoot user. "Easy to use" has been their mantra for many years.

They have seen the light and are getting into more advanced cameras. The 7440 is a good example of that change of direction. It is good to see that they have formed an alliance with Schneider for their lenses.
