Which camera is a better deal - Nikon D80 or Cannon EOS 30D?

I have been doing some research to buy a new SLR camera between $1000-$1500 and have short listed Nikon D80 and Cannon EOS 30D. Canon EOS 30D seems to be quite poupular but it is 8 megapxel camera. Nikon D80 is latest and is 10 megapixel. I am unable to decide which is a better deal. Price wise Nikon is little sheaper. Could anyone help suggest which is a better camera?

Hard to say !

Nikon's favorites say yes to Nikon. On the contrary, Canon's fans will hardly pick Nikon. Neverending conclusion. Each camera has its own uniqueness. Visit www.dpreview.com for more in depth review !

Not answerable

Unfortunately, you will never get a definite answer to that question. If you already have Nikon or Canon lenses, you will definitely want to stick with the same brand. If you don't have either, I'd recommend trying both out as you may feel that the controls and handling on one feel better than the other.

The reviewers have been very positive on both cameras but it looks like (from the summary of reviews) that the Nikon D80 has a very slight edge. I have a Canon 20D and really am happy with it and the pictures that I'm getting from it. I'm sure you'd be happy with either though.
