Which camera?

Nov 2, 2004 1:29AM PST

Ok, I thought I had decided on a camera, but now I'm not sure. I'm not sure what the difference/benefits of a SLR are compared to a nonSLR.
Here's what I was going to get: Canon Digital Rebel.
However.. 8MP cameras similarly priced caught my eye, like the Konica Minolta Dimage A2. So, can someone explain to me what, besides better pictures with the 8MP, would be the pros and cons of the SLR vs the nonSLR? Thanks.

cant b bothered to do the research, besides only you know what you want, here are two reviews of those 2 cameras,
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos300d/
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/konicaminoltaa2/
including technical specs. Dunno if this helps but the raw specs are always important to consider, and make sure you dont look just at the MP cause that is not always a clear indicator of image quality. A 5 MP camear will easily give you good 8x10 prints, to go to 8 MP will give you some very good shots, but unless you are a professional or going to blow the pics up a lot the 8 MP is not that much better than a 5MP for example. Dont forget to look at battery life and the type of media the camera uses.
you probobly had already looked at all that, but I figured id say it anyways.

The DSLR lets you choose many lenses.

The DSLR has a much larger sensor which means much less noise under low light conditions. The Rebel has ISO settings of 100 to 1600.

Faster autofocus.
The shutter lag time is very short.

Excellent camera for sports and action photography.

......

DSLR disadvantages: Bigger, heavier

That's what I wanted to know! Thanks alot. I'll stick with my original choice then, the Rebel because I held it today at the store and it didn't seem heavy or too big and it got good reviews.
