Question

Which camcorder is best for recording live studio rehearsal

Nov 6, 2013 10:58AM PST

I have been searching the web for the possible camcorder that has decent hd video recording & the best audio recording all in one.

There are few options ;

- Zoom Q2hd
- Zoom Q3hd
- Sony hdr-mv1 (new product*)

Which do you think would have the best sound quality for recording rehearsal's with my band and maybe even live concerts ? Is there any more options that i should be aware about ?

This may be a case of sound and video not mixing. By this I mean that your camera needs to be back from the group to get the full picture BUT the microphones need to be close to pick up the best sound.
So options to consider:-

1) A camera with an external mic input (usually a 3.5mm stereo socket) plus a stereo mic and extension lead mounted in front of the group. I use a YOGA EM-268 but others use a Rode video mic.

2) Collect the video in a camera and the audio on a separate recorder (example Zoom H2) and mix the sound and picture in a video editor. This is a popular option for concerts.

Of the three devices you suggest, I like the look of the Sony but expect the sound to have room echo and any other external sound.

I can't guess why folk continue to try this. I like what was noted in your first reply. Great advice.
