Question

Which camcorder for fliming from a light aircraft

Jul 5, 2011 12:56AM PDT

Hi, I want to video (HD) from a light aircraft and need to know which camcorder will be best. I was told that Tape and Hard Drive should NOT be used as the vibration of the aircraft will interfere significantly with the recording - is this true? Budget is $1500-00. It must have very good stabilization. The local shop reommended the Sony Nex VG10?

Answer
Not possible it seems.

BEST would change as we travel around the world and find some models here and there and we create the spreadsheet with the specs, some weight for each criteria and what a mess.

Try this. Supply a list of what you want and what you can buy and try to keep the list short. What are your top 3 choices?

As to vibration, define interference. It would be proper for your video to show it's a bumpy ride!

Interference: I was told that you cannot use a Hard Drive or Tape Drive Camcorder in a light aircraft as the vibrations prevent the camcorder from recording.

Top 3: It depends on the validity of the above query / remark on whether aircraft virbations will affect the recordings.
The Sony NEX VG10 looks good, but I would appareciate some advice.

Having seen both work, why do folk write they don't?

Odd. YES there are limits to the vibration but as you hold the unit, it's like an automatic damper.
