There is an aweful lot of differences between those 3 cameras, not the least of which is the VX runs about $2200, the FX $3000, and the XL2 about $4000.
Advantages to the XL2- Native 16:9 chips, 24fps, xlr audio.
Advantages to FX1- HD, native 16:9 chips.
Advantage to VX- Best low light camcorder under $4000.
Do you want to shoot in SD or HD??
Do you want to shoot in 16:9??
For the audio, you can get XLR adapters. You wouldn't want to use the onboard mic for any of them.
I am looking to purchase a camera for use in shooting outdoor videos. There will be some fast action, and shoots done at all times of the day. I am waffling between the Canon XL2 (I like the 20x zoom and features), the Sony HDFX1, and Sony VX2100. The Canon, from what I have read, has better audio capabilites, which is important, as I will be using 2 wireless mics. What about the Sony HDFX1? I have heard reports of motor noise being captured on film during zoom, and also handling noise. I like the idea being able to convert the videos later to HD, once it is more mainstream. I have heard that the color viewfinder on the Sony is nice for filming outdoors, as you can pick things out in the woods easier, but I have also heard that with a color viewfinder, quality could be sacrificed. Please help, as I have to choose one by Monday! Thanks!
