Question

Which brand of TV has a freeze picture feature?

Apr 23, 2017 3:54PM PDT

Using our old Bravia Sony we watch free TV over the air and can freeze a picture at will with our Sony remote. However, our Sony died and we need to get a new TV and we're having difficulty finding a TV that has that feature. We don't use cable or satellite. Do you know which TV out there has that feature? Or has it been dropped by the manufacturers?

Freeze Frame feature on Tv

I've always used Pause with Dvd players not capturing a live broadcast image.

This is a hard thing to search.

But if the TV has a recording feature it usually has a pause live TV button. HOWEVER it may only work on the Antenna input. Not a single model I've seen will pause when the input is HDMI (why is simply about copy protection.)

Also, not one of the TVs that had this worked out of the box. We had to add a USB HDD.

PS. Forgot to add, countries matter here. To have members search for you, you have to reveal what country you are in.

Freezing an image on TV screen
Apr 24, 2017 7:05PM PDT

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation. We are in Texas. We got accustomed to Sony's freeze frame feature and didn't realize that wasn't a standard feature among TVs until we started looking for a new TV. When we pressed the freeze button, a snap shot of the frame would freeze while a screen inset of the program would continue. The only reason we like to freeze a frame is to capture a memorable image. Since we're connected to our attic antenna, perhaps we could hook up a DVR instead. Thank you for your suggestion.

Ouch, ouch, ouch.

Samsung and most others do not allow access to the recorded content and not one had a snapshot feature. All in the name of protecting the content.

If your DVR has all this, then that's the way to go.
