Which 20GB is best?

Jun 11, 2005 11:22AM PDT

Hi.
I'm in the market for a 20GB MP3 player of some variety. I need input as to which one will fit my needs best. I am currently looking at the Creative Zen Touch, the Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra (30GB), iRiver H10, and (reluctantly) the ipod.

I've been looking at reviews from other users, and I have seen some pretty consistent complaints about durability and customer service pertaining to both the Creative products, and the ipod. I have heard complaints that the units quit working after about 4 months, and the problems described have been pretty consistent.

My sister has a 20GB ipod and has already had probelms with the headphone jack crapping out on her. I don't think the ipod is right for me, but i'm not totally ruling it out if anyone has any evidence that it might be a good buy.

I haven't found much information about the iRiver...and that troubles me, as well.

and what about the infamous irreplacable battery concerns?

Mostly, I am concerned about durability. I want the product that will last the longest, and will cover my behind if something DOES go wrong.

SO...what has been your experience with these things? Which do you reccomend and why?

I'd choose the H10. A friend of mine has it and is real fond of it. And it's also got a replaceable battery so you don't need to worry about that.

But, personally, I'd recommend a Toshiba Gigabeat F20. It's built real sturdy, and sounds great. And the battery is removable, though a bit troublesome to do so. Anyway, I think this is a good choice.

If you want a plain music player go for Sony NWHD5, thing is there is easy access to replace to the battery, dunno about the gigabeats having replaceble batteries also by the iRiver H10 (20gb version), cos i read on the iriver website that only the 5gb version had removable batteries and not the 20gb and the 1gb version coming out. But the Toshiba Gigabeat has a removable battery then its what i definitely recommend.

My IRiver IHP120
Nov 17, 2005 4:52AM PST

I have had an IRiver IHP 120 for the last 14 months, it has 20 Gb memory and so far it has been great. I use it only for music and ocasionally for storing files from my computer. I don't download but copy from CD by converting from WAV to MP3 through my computer and then transfer the files into the player. So far I have about 4000 songs (including classical music). It has never failed on me. Life battery is about 14 hours and recharges quite quickly. The only negative comments that I can come up with is that this player is somewhat difficult to learn how to use it. The shuffle function for playing songs is not completely random and it has a tendency to repeat some songs.
