Question

where to start

Mar 30, 2016 12:19AM PDT

Hi everyone,

When it comes to wireless networking I don't know much more than the average home user, I can setup a network and join clients to it but obviously you don't need to do much else with a home network.

The school where I work has recently had a new wireless infrastructure (Xirrus) put in place and we are having some issues with it, luckily we have someone who is very knowledgeable helping to support us at the moment and watching what he is doing has made me realise how little I know about a real wireless network. I have done the cisco ccna course many years ago so networking and it's core fundamentals are not strange to me but I would now like to update my knowledge and skill set so that I can start to at least understand what is going on with our network and help identify any problems etc.

My main question is where do I start? Many of the wireless books you can buy are aimed at the home user and do not cover what I would like them to as they are too simple. Secondly is there an emulator or virtual lab I could use to practise and test the theory as I learn it?

Thanks for your feedback and ideas.
