General discussion

where to post question about profile?

Oct 24, 2006 6:33PM PDT

i have a question about how to use my profile- Where do i post this?

the only reason i set up a profile is so that i can line up a comparison of the laptops i am interested in, to line-up their features to choose one.

now that i have the computers i'm intersted in all in my ''want it'' list, there seems to be no way to compare them.

why can i compare things outside my list but not on my list? seems a little inconvenient to me.... or is there a way to do this?

thank you!
nicole

A different approach...

The purpose of the I Want and I Got lists is to show others what products you have and want, as a way to 'show off,' recommend specific products, and find others with similar product interests. It does not give you the ability to compare products.

However, you can compare products outside of your profile. You can click here and search for laptops based on various requirements you have. You can then check the boxes along the right-hand side and click the Compare button at the top or bottom to create a side-by-side comparison. On the compare page there is a 'Printer friendly' link so that you can cut away all but the comparison chart and print it for reference. You can also save the comparison chart in your favorites/bookmarks to come back to it later.

Hope this helps,
John

That is simply not helpful. MY purpose for using the lists is as I stated, to make a purchase decision. A perfectly valid purpose, whether or not Cnet is the place to accomplish it. So what if I don't want to show off my lists. If I want to use something in my account differently than what it's "meant" for, why should that concern you? I'm not breaking any rules. What a silly answer! If it doesn't give me the ability to compare products, then it is lacking in flexibility and functionality.

Obviously products can be compared outside of the profile, which has little to do with why I signed up for a profile. The returns on such a search are too limited within the allotted parameters, which is why I thought to set up my own by my own choosing within my profile. Clearly that does not work. Thank you for reiterating that to me. Der.

I did read it...

As I stated in my previous response, "It does not give you the ability to compare products." It would be like wanting to use a Honda Accord to race in the Indy 500...the car was not meant/designed for that purpose, and hence it cannot be used for such. It's not an issue of what you are permitted to do but an issue of what the tools presented enable you to do.
