where to get MediaPlayer Codecs

i have some movie files of >avi extension..but they require codecs to play...idownloaded and installed so many codecs and Divx software...but the files are not working..i saw those files running on my friend's pc..but he dont have those codecs now...
tell me where to get the complete codecs for media player

I can't help you since you didn't share the website with the example media file that needs examination. So I can only note http://www.moviecodec.com and let you work the issue.
