Resolved Question

Where to Find Driver for PNY 8G Flash DRIVE

Mar 21, 2012 7:46AM PDT

Doing some google searching, I learned that with older computers, these latest Flash Drives may not be listed in Device Manager and may require a driver, but no clue where to get that. Device Mgr. has some words in list like USB Root Hub, one of them for my mouse I think, and I should probably go back to open the others while I'm waiting, but had already read something to the effect that Flash Drives may not work with older computers. At least without a special driver. Probably it installs just like HP Drivers, but I for one never heard of PNY, bought it at Staples. It's listed as G: drive, but does not open or anything.

Using XP Home, SP3, Compaq Presario 2002, 5400, hard drive replaced in 2007, Firefox default browser.

If anyone knows anything about this, TIA.

Flash drives.

Hi again, and thanks for reposting this.

I see you have connected the PNY 8G Flash drive and My Computer recognises it as Drive G. What happens if you now highlight that drive in My Computer?

In the right hand pane of My Computer there should be nothing listed. But all that means is it is ready for you to save files onto it.

Have you tried that? If so and that fails, what do you see and what error messages are displayed?

You or someone told me I don't need a special driver, that my computer's not THAT old, so I just fooled around with it, have an Icon for the Flash Drive I dragged to my Desktop so I don't have to go to My Computer, discovered you just click the icon first, highlight and RIGHT click the title, to get a 'Send To" and the flash drive is listed there. I've saved two articles, deleted one.

Now I just have ONE more tech problem, something wrong with HP Image Zone so I can't send a picture to Facebook. They have Publish to the Web, two sites I never heard of, not Facebook, and neither can I copy/paste it from an email sent to myself. I'll google search a bit before starting another question here. There's some HP forums. Thanks again and have a great evening. You've been SO knowledgeable!
