I get the impression that as long as he doesn't have to think 'on his feet' by having questions posed to him by reporters and his inability to keep any of his stories in line with the others he's told, he's probably been told by his 'advisors' to get up on a stage, monologue whatever they've written for him, and get gone in a hurry.
Oh yeah, I see him out on the stump. But for someone that promised better access to the press were he to be elected, he hasn't fielded questions from the press in well over a month. Meanwhile the Russerts of the world are left to have the likes of Madeline Albright try to channel what Kerry's position on Iraq is, or anything else for that matter. While there was a planned "airwave silence" due to campaign finance issues, one would think the various networks and shows would fall all over one another for a Kerry appearance, so getting free face time wouldn't be a problem.
This is a most telling development.
