View/Office Clipboard does it for me.

You don't seem to be doing much exploring here.

Looking for the clipboard

Look under Tools/Scrapbook

I'm pretty sure that is also the clipboard, since when I copied a word, it also put it there.

This from the help file of Office 2004.

If you want to move or reuse a single item that you do not want saved for future use, use the CUT, COPY & Paste commands on the Edit menu. The item remains on the Mac OS Clipboard until you cut or copy the next item or restart your computer.
To view the current contents of the Mac OS clipboard, in the Finder, click Show Clipboard on the Edit menu.

Looks like Scrapbook is where you need to be.
