Where is my Internet Explorer?

Oct 27, 2006 8:07AM PDT

Hi

I've been having a problem with IE7 since it was released, and I've reinstalled it several times.Every time I clicked on the icon, all I got was a "send report" message.

Now, it won't open at all, no error messages or anything.

And also, I can't do a search for it because "Search" won't open either Sad

It shouldn't...

1.) Internet Explorer is located in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and has the filename iexplore.exe.

2.) If IE is corrupt, though, knowing where the EXE is located won't do you any good.

3.) Search uses Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer. With IE7 Microsoft has finally started to break the bond between them, realizing it poses security and stability risks. Thus, a corrupt IE7 should not affect Windows Explorer.

4.) I would uninstall IE7 using Add/Remove Programs and see what happens. (That should restore IE6 from backup as well.) If the problems remain I would scan for malware and then run SFC. (Go Start->Run and type in SFC /scannow with the space.) Make sure you have your XP CD handy.

Hope this helps,
John

RE : It Shouldn't

Well, right after I posted here, I ran system restore(to Oct 1st). I got IE7 back, but it's corrupted. I don't have a home page button, stop or refresh button, and I don't have any text where File, View, Tools etc should be.

I really don't use IE, but I want it to be functional..just in case.

Ok, as you suggested, I uninstalled IE7 and got a working version of IE6.

I'm sticking with this one..No more updating.

Thanks John Happy
