Forget it, to many files in to many places. If your modem is a bit older windows XP will more than likey have a driver built in, if not, download a new copy from the manufactures site or To save you a bit of time at this site use :drivers :all

well this is what has happened . I reformatted a compaq computer that had a working modem . I went from windows me os to win 98 os . The modem will not work now . It's a pctel platinum V.30 modem and every driver I have downloaded will not work . As a test I tried installing xp to this machine and it detected the modem and installed it and everything worked . But I cannot leave xp on here so I was hoping to back up the modem before I went back to win 98 .

The XP driver will not work in Win 98. Go to google and do a search for your modem in inverted comma's I.E., "modem type". Or see if it has an FCC ID Number and do a search under that.

My Compaq PC reverted from WinXP to Win2K
by chris-sinclair / March 5, 2005 11:58 AM PST

I successfully re-formatted my Compaq PC to Win2K and found the modem as not detected on that OS as was seen and working on WinXP Home. This was 2? years ago.

So what I did as a download from Compaq website for Win2K modem driver and this worked.

There was a choice of WinXP or Win2K modem driver for that particular conexant HSF V92 modem.

To, why use and install Win98 as too old and the OS no longer supported?

Can't you get a Win2K CD install disk and surely a driver can be found for that modem?

Is there a driver on Win2K for your modem available?

If so, just consider getting a later Windows to save you of any more hassles of getting a modem driver.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
