Clipboard is in the System32 directory
Dec 18, 2004 9:26AM PST

Harv, You'll find clipbrd.exe in your C:\WINNT\System32 directory (folder) or C:\Windows\System32 directory (folder) depending on your system.

Thanks for the help.

I had to run an advanced Search in order to find clipbrd.exe on my pc. Thought it was located under Programs, which is not the case. Isn't Clipboard supposed to appear automatically in certain cases? Never has popped up, since I've had my computer (about 3 years).

Regarding your question
Dec 18, 2004 11:40AM PST

Harv, When you copy something by hiliting it then right clicking on the hilited words and choose copy it stores the hilited words to your clipboard. If you try it then just open your clipbrd.exe you'll see what I'm saying. The clipboard per se does not pop up.

taking up space?
Dec 18, 2004 7:59PM PST

The amount of space is minimal. You can clear the office clipboard by opening any program within the office group, go to edit then office clipboard. A new window will open and one choice is to clear all.

Dec 19, 2004 1:52PM PST

say I dont have any office projects you speak of.

I have minimal on pc, just like they sell them.(but pretend they are full of software). yet wild tangent i have read is some sort of spyware. and aol has something weird vision ??
I have seen clip board before but really dont fully understand it. you can provide the details here for me and others.. or I will eventually learn on my own.
It is frustrating for newbies in this field who spend there life saving lives or for that matter doing something other than computing.. I merely do a little computing on the side. I come here and think i will get great answers from teachers teaching our young kids and get disappointed daily by someone.

of course the crude remarks are from the same ones.

I am not that familiar with going into W EXPLORE
so for newbies you tech guys should be a little patient if you are in a forum like this.
we need a little bit deeper help than your techy friends to say w go to explore and then h key after software then reg edit and cmd line after seleting etc.. i followed pest controls info and lost my whole pc. so dont reg edit unless that dude or gal is at your pc doin it themselves, or you learn yourself.. so can you help us? simple question here.. not so simple after all.

I am sorry but warning everyone, you ask a simple question and no telling what you will get.

for all the newbies, dont be afraid to say what you feel, that is what AMERICA is about.!

oops am I yelling again?

clipboard

"I have seen clip board before but really dont fully understand it. you can provide the details here for me and others.. or I will eventually learn on my own."

I think you believe that the clipboard is a program you can access like Word. It really is more of a function that works in the background. When you copy something, you highlight text and select copy, it is put on "the clipboard". And it stays there for you to use later. An example is when you paste it into another program. The copied text or other material remains on the clipboard until you copy something else or delete it. In older versions of Office, I have Office 97, you can't pull up the clipboard. It is just there working in the background when you need it. With Office 2003, I can access it and delete any or all entries.

You have expressed a concern about data on the clipboard taking up vaulable space. The amount of hard drive space it uses is minimal. Most of the time, it wouldn't fill a floppy. So your concerns are for not.

How to find clipbrd.exe
Dec 19, 2004 9:09PM PST

Native_Texan, To get into Windows Explorer click the Start button, put your cursor (pointer) over Programs then over Accessories and you'll see Windows Explorer in the right hand column. Just click on Windows Explorer and it will open. Then in the left column click the + in front of My Computer then the + infront of Local Disk "C", then the + in front of WINNT (or possibly Windows depending on your computer) then scroll down to the System 32 folder and double click it and it will open in the right hand pane where you will find clipbrd.exe.

Hope This Helps,

?Saving? Clipboard
Jan 17, 2005 7:55AM PST

Found clipboard.exe per instructions you gave earlier. Now want to know if there is some way to save the Clipboard Viewer where it would be easily accessible rather than chase it down in WinExplr??
Thanks in advance.

Just one question????
Jan 31, 2005 6:43AM PST

Why would anyone need a shortcut for clipboard.exe on the desktop? I've been computing for years, and honestly can't think of one reason.
The Windows clipboard is always accessible. All you need to do is hilite the text, right click the mouse, then choose save to clipboard. I don't know of another function of the clipboard. If I've missed something, could someone please enlighten me.

Here's MY reason...

When I highlight a text and right-click on it, there is NO option for Clipboard. I have to copy the text to Notepad, WordPad or Word.

Clipbrd
Jan 31, 2005 4:23PM PST

On Windows XP. To access the clipboard go to
Start->Run and in the dialog box type clipbrd and press enter.

As far as I know, the "Windows Clipboard" can be used for anything on a PC. (i.e.) You cut a big picture and paste it into a folder. That picture stays in the clipboard until you copy something else, and some times is will ask you if you want to keep it available for later use. I usually say "NO".

Thanks for the tip.

It's quicker than going into WinExplorer to get it.

Just select Copy.
Feb 1, 2005 5:42AM PST

There's no clipboard option that I'm aware of. You just right click, then select Copy. The info. is then copied to the clipboard.

I just re-read your last post. I believe that you misunderstand the function of the clipboard. It is an application in Windows that allows you to copy and paste.
That's all, nothing more. You've been using it all along, when you copy and paste to Word, Notepad, etc.
Hope this helps.

Feb 1, 2005 12:50PM PST

get the clipboard option. I copy and paste on and min to min basis. Very rare occassions I will see this has been placed to clipboard.. do you want to save etc...
that message only shows up maybe 5% of the time.
rest of time copy and paste goes as usual(NO CLIPboard)
messages. so i guess if it were not for the 5% of the rare clipboard notices i get, then i would not even be wondering what the heck clipboard is and does and etc..
go figure.... i still dont understand it..
