Where can I get a ruler across the top of the screen

Apr 14, 2005 2:30AM PDT

My vague recollection is that with Windows 98 I could open a ruler across the top of my sreen which would permit me to determine such things as how many inches a column took up. I can't find such a program in XP. I wonder if I am missing something? I see some free programs for getting such a ruler but I'm wondering how I can tell whether or not the programs bring some kind of malware into my computer?

Hi Grandpaw

If you open Notepad, it doesn't have the "ruler".

But it you open Wordpad, you should find the "ruler".

Best of Luck

under View, you can click the ruler in and out, and it also counts your words for you. Amos

Thanks, folks. So I opened my MS Works and found that it also has a ruler option in View. That's really what I was looking for. The comment about Word led me to it. I also opened WordPad and found that ruler. Solved. grandpaw
