General discussion

Where are these files located?

May 27, 2005 1:28AM PDT

When you send instant messages (yahoo) or click on a jpeg picture (not download to save) to view I assume all that goes into a history or file on the hard drive. What are they called or where are they located? I would like to see what is there, whats been cleaned, etc.

Also, are there any free programs like Disk Investigator I have heard about you can run that will pull up stuff like that to see what might be on the drive that the normal person could interpret?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Mike,

I wonder if instant messages are being saved (although you can choose to 'log' them in MSN Messenger), but all pictures viewed in IE are stored in the Temporary Internet Files. That's just a folder somewhere on your hard disk (depends on your OS), and you can have a look at it with Windows Explorer.
