Wher have all my favorites gone?

Mar 10, 2010 9:19AM PST

Can anyone tell me how to find my favorites. I finally "upgraded" to IE8 from IE6. It will only import some old, old favorites. I have had the same problem with Chrome. I have searched and scoured my system for a bookmark or favorites file that has the IE6 info, but it ain't there! The IE6 version was from Verizon, optimized for MSN or some such version. I have to use IE6 as a browser if I need to go to one of these favorite sites. The IE6 has NO export function. Windows XP SP3 otherwise running just fine. Thank You.

A few notes...

1.) IE6 does have an export function, as Bryn noted in her reply.

2.) IE8 stores all favorites in the same place as IE6 did, so there is no need to import/export your favorites; any IE6 favorites will automatically be available in IE8.

2.) The installation of IE8 replaces IE6, so it is not possible (by default) to continue using IE6.

Thus, there's a strong chance you're not actually using IE6, but rather a third-party extension to IE6 that stores its bookmarks elsewhere on your system. That would explain why you cannot find them in IE8, Chrome cannot import them, and your old browser continues to function after IE8's installation.
