When starting the engine there is some rattling noise

May 7, 2007 9:46PM PDT

When i start my engine car there is some rattling noise that persist for about 2-5 seconds. i want to know what is the cause of this. Is it an oil pump or a timing chain or what? Help me out guys if i need to do that i will. The car is not heating up. The temperature gauge is always at the minimum.
One last thing, the idling jet problem or air flow cotroller seem to be un-effective. This is because the reffing count is not constant when the car is idling. Help me out here also, i need some advices.

Thank you i will be happy for all the information.

I think you should take it to a mechanic.

You didn't say how old the car was..

A rattling noise such as you describe could be a rusted heat shield on the catalytic converter. Many of their mounts rust out with age and they rattle on start up. Most just fall off or have to be pulled off. I've had to yank many of them out and never had a problem running without them.
