when right click on icon folder freezes

Whenever i right click on an icon to bring up the right click menu the whole folder freezes up. why does it do this and how can i stop it from freezing?

First, what operating system are you using? Have you recently updated Windows? Did you install a new program? Is it only folder icons that are freezing up? TJ
