when i 1st started

when I 1st started there was a lot i did not know how or where to put question and wound up posting a question. now i know how to do it. i was sick a very long time and it is still hard to concentrate and make sure I do things right with this new hp computer. it a few month old now. one of the trouble i have had and so as my husband is, after one of us have been on for a while it well just stop pulling up pages. the page just says it having trouble to fine the page and or connect to the page. not just some but all i tried to pull up. if i close every thing and disconnect. then connect again. that works most of the time but when it does not i disconnect shut down computer wait a while and then it works some more. can some one tell me what might be causing this? thanks sham1313

It could be anything from a browser plugin to an ISP issue, so the first step is to try another browser, such as Firefox or Opera, and see if the problem remains while using one of them instead of Internet Explorer.

I think it is a plug in not sure where or what to download

even when i try to connect to live e-bay chat it says i need a plug in. it does a search and says it cannot fine a suite able one. I think you can tell me where to go and what one to download. I have both IE 7 and Netscape browzer. thank you sham1313 I have a new hp laptop.

i well be able to look at the URL you sent me. either tonight or 1st thing in the morning. some of this computer trouble is. some times it is fast and other times it is very slow. when i am going from page to page it well do OK for a while. then all of a sudden it well just not pull up any pages at all. I tried IE 7 and Netscape navigator. if I disconnect and connect again. most times well be OK for a while. some times when this happens i shut it down leave it off then try again and for awhile it well work again. i well copy paste the help i said i needed at one time because it has the information on my computer. some of it don't pay any a tension to cause i know i am running in the right mode witch is windows vista. here the copy paste.

thanks sham1313 one more thing there was a reply once saying in some of the information on the comuter that i made a mistake in on this DV6809WN was told it was a m ot a n. but on the computer every one has look and hp tech as well as iyogi tech says it is a n. i had to download another manual for this computer and was sent the url from hp. it was for between one no. and other number. but mine was not listed. hp wrote me again telling me that it was the manual for my computer as well. so i am confused about this as well

Your browser cache maybe full, edit it to increase size if you never gotten into the IE setting. As another poster mentioned the ISP maybe busy and it holds you back, though it may recover quickly, just hit the "refresh" button, the one looks like a bend arrow. I use a pgm. called CCleaner which left in its default setting does a pretty job of clearing any common browser cache and/or temp files, etc., look into it, google for it.

computer slow and other problems

I use something called RegCure it is suppose to repair and optimize you PC. i also defragment at least two times a day. it is not just being slow. it also when I try to do live chat with e-bay it has not connoted in a long time. some times it tell me i need a plug in witch i have not look at yet just got home from Dr and saw you answered my e-mail. I thought i see what you told me 1st. some times when pages come up it will tell me I need a plug in and it does the search and once again it well tell me that it don't fine the suite able one.

then when i try to view certain picture or try to play a video it well play a few words then well pause between the next few words and movement. like I said above I defag. a lot and my temp files get deleted once a day. i know it is missing some thing cause it tell me it does. just not sure what. i know very little about computer. I know it wants a plug in, but not sure what kind of plug in. it does not tell me that. i hope this help you so you can help me more. my husband ia wantting on the computer now. next time i get a chance to get on line i well look here to see if you reply then well look at the url you sent me. thanks sham1313

i do try what you asked. that was the 1st thing i did when it happen the 1st time even if i close ail browser and open a new one that does not work. i always half to disconnect the try it all over again. most times that works but not all the time. today is Saturday i forgot there is a place i can call for free today that might be able to fix it. threw the week i cannot call, because i have to use my cell phone so i wont have to call then on computer phone. with sprint even on toll free numbers they take off what they call any time (min-its) i cannot spell that simple word.). then after a 1000 min-its they cost me 40 cent a min. when i 1st got this computer. i call for free help all the time and wound up with close to a $400.00 phone bill. that is how i found out the hard way that i can only call them on the weaken for free. well tell you what i can after i get threw talking to them. thanks sham1313

John.Wilkinson: I looked through this thread and I'm guessing that you are still following it. If you are sham1313 is probably using the HP DV6809WN as stated. This appears to be the Spanish version of the HP DV6809WM, so they are in fact the same computer. Sham1313 may be helped by a Spanish version of CNet if such exists.

Sham1313: Is Spanish your native language? If so, one of the moderators may be able to point the way to a site that will make it a little easier for you. Happy You also mentioned iYogi. I can't really say that you should stop using them but I will say that there is more than enough help online that is free, like CNet and HP.com, where you shouldn't have to pay for support. If you indeed speak Spanish there are options on HP's website that may be helpful. I hope this helps.

i am adding some more to the top of this email i wrote to let ya know when i 1st got this computer and got iyogi help i thought they were part of microsoft help, but found out they our i guess what you say is a third party setup. i had been sick for a very long time and when i started doing computer again a lot had change. i did not read enough of there page. i should have relized with them being called iyogi that they were not going to be in the usa. i do have troble understanding them from time to time. i could not get a refund. so if i cannot do some thing on the computer right i do try to get help from them. i still have some trouble of concentating like on doing some setting or some thing like that on this computer.

i had all this wrote and was about to put it in the wrong part of this page so i am glad you replied to me. before reading the copy paste of that email. i want to thank you for your reply and let you know English is my native tongue. thanks just don't have a lot of schooling. i know some times my spelling is bad and i dint use prober English. i do try my best. i even try to correct my spelling my copying pasting the email in my bluelight mail, so i can use the check spelling. check now here is the copy paste email thanks again

i am doing this late at night i guess you could also say early this morning sense it is only one ten this morning. i cannot sleep so thought i tell every one what i said i would tell you about what teg help said on Sunday. i am also doing this mostly in the dark as not to bug my husband or our animals. some of the trouble i was having was pages not coming up some times. or trying to and the download line only getting about one forth threw. some times pictures not being very clear at times. also not being able to get to live ebay help, to get help with ebay. they said all that was because of only having a dial up connection. they did get me to a certain plug in. from this page. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/thankyou/all.html
it took me over 2hr and 30 minutes download. it was to help me connect to live ebay chat. i am still not able to connect with ebay help support. one time before i call them for help when i 1st got this computer. i had sound also could hear the modem dialing out. when they were threw setting up certain setting. and got off the phone from them. i could not here the modem dial any more. i can only call them on the weaken. i have call them a couple of times and kept forgetting to mention about not hearing the modem. you might be thinking the mute was on the modem. it was not i check. then all of a sudden i did not have any sound on the computer at all. i do have sound now, but not with the modem. i told them it was working before they took control of my desk top. they only said they look to see what they could do and all they did was tell me i had to call hp because they could not fix it. sense because i can only call on weaken to get teg help. i have to Wait tell Saturday. i have to do it on the weaken because i have to do it with my cell phone. the house phone is the computer line. because sprint if i call them during a week and have used my minutes up. they charge me 40 cents a minutes and that does cost alot in my books. teg help told me that most of my problems was because of only having a dial up connection and this computer was to advance to me on just dial up. i hope some one here can help me with two things so i don't have to call them. one is how do i fix the modem to hear it dialing? also what i need to do to be able to connect to live ebay chat? i also remember reading some where in one of the forum that i should call hp and ask then to send me a certain disk. that is suppose to be the total back up for this computer. i think it was called and OME disk. i am not a very good speller or typist. i hope you can read and understand this email. i cannot Wait to see if i get a reply. i am not sure if you need any other information from me in order to help me or not.

on the botton of this computer it says the letter n and not m. with what you said above about that the n was the spanish verison of this computer i am more confused now. why on the botton of this computer does it show the letter n? thanks sham1313

sham1313: Your typing is fine. I have no problem understanding what you are trying to get across. I do apologize for making the assumption that you were Spanish. The reason I did is because the system that you have is apparently a computer that is sold in Spanish speaking countries. I was able to find that model number (DV6809WN not WM) on the HP site, however it was on one of the Spanish language HP sites. The WM is the model sold in English speaking countries (it may be used in other countries but I didn't see a need to check that).

Based on what I've read in this thread and some of the other one that you posted in this is what has happened. Correct me if I'm wrong on any of these points.
1) You probably purchased the computer from eBay. I say that because I don't think a system direct from HP would have that model number.
2) The computer has a model number used for Spanish speaking countries.
3) You're unable to use the eBay chat but have you tried e-mailing them on their contact page? Also what were you attempting to do with the chat? (This one isn't really a point, just questions)
4) You are connecting to the internet using a dial-up connection, probably NetZero based on the BlueLight Mail comment.
5) You signed up for the annual iYogi plan. Apparently that company is headquartered in India but has locations in other countries, including the US. I found that on their website. The website is US based.
6) You are unable to cancel the plan that you have with iYogi or get a refund. I can't say what you should do here but I would never do business with a company where I didn't have an option to cancel a plan like that. Having said that I have a cell phone and most cell phone companies use a similar tactic with the cancellation fees that they charge if you want to get out of your contract, but at least you can get out of it.
and 7) The computer isn't working correctly.

If all of this is correct then this is a tough situation. You mentioned the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) disk. The problem with that is it may be difficult to get one for that model based on numbers 1 and 2 above. With regards to the modem not making the expected noises, I wouldn't worry too much about that as long as it is connecting. The parts on the other thread about Windows 95 versus Windows Vista I couldn't quite fathom but it may have had something to do with Vista's compatibility feature. One way to find out what you have is to click Start => Control Panel => System and Maintenance => Welcome Center. Doing that will show the Windows version, the type and speed of your CPU, the amount of memory (RAM) as well as some other information.

Here is what I would try (you can decide what you want to do):
1) E-mail HP to verify that the model number is one used in Spanish speaking countries at (http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/contact_us.html) under the E-mail HP section (probably use the Other Questions/Feedback option).
2) If the computer was a recent purchase, contact eBay (I'm assuming here that that is where it came from) via e-mail to see if it would be possible to return the computer. You may need to contact the seller directly rather than eBay if you have that information. I've never used eBay before so I'm not much help here.
3) As far as iYogi, I don't know. If you've already paid and you can't cancel it (or don't want to) you might as well use the service. I checked their website for information on how to cancel and came up with nothing.
4) For the internet connection, if you're unhappy with dial-up then you could look into a broadband connection (cable or dsl) to see what it would cost versus what you are paying for dial-up. That is if it is available in your area. I use cable and have been quite satisfied for the past few years. DSL would be offered by your telephone company if it is available.

I'm not sure if I've covered everything but this post is turning into a novel so I'll stop for now. Happy If you have any questions, let me know.

CNet mods: If I've crossed the TOS line in any of my ranting, I apologize. Please let me know if I did (or didn't). I just think sham1313 has been taken advantage of with regard to some of these issues and it's frustrating to see that happen to anyone.

thanks for getting back to me. this is a walmart hp computer the second one is i don't have a if model number is used for Spanish specking countries or not. i may call walmart and ask that question. they may not no either. the 1st time i called hp for help they tried to tell me the warranty had expired. i had to get the store recipes and tell them what walmart i bought it at. after i gave them about every number on the bottom of the computer they found it and then try to help me. at 1st they kept telling me i had to pay $1.95 each min. so maybe it is what you thing it is.
3. i was sick a very long time and i had a ebay count back then. i did not know i could reactivate it. that one was sham1313. when i tried using that handle to get another account with them. they said it was already being used. so i made another account with the name 1313sham1313. i bought and paid for a item. i did some help searches to get started and found out i could get my old account back. it took a while to do that. threw the mail i was canceling the 1313sham1313. i was trying to view certain pictures on ebay the pictures that stayed in motion all the time. that i had a lot of trouble. i ask them about that in a email to see if it was ebay problem or not. they said to get a hold of life ebay chat. so when i was trying to connect for that reason i was trying to see if the 1313sham1313 account had been completly deleted or not. i dont have to say again because you red my post about how i tried and how long i tried at a time. it was only i thing 3 times i did get connected for other simple problems but forgot to ask those two guestion. i wrote it down so i would not forget and sense then i have not been able to even with the plug in i installed. we did for a while have 3 connection. bluelight was one netzero was two and free juno. free juno is how i 1st got connected to the Internet the 1st time. now we only have netzero and free juno for a back up connection. when they 1st talk to me an sign me up they led me to believe that they were Microsoft and not a 3rd party thing. i thought i paid for phone help on two computer. this one i am on and my old IBM. witch if it work right i rather use that one then this one. (smile) but when i called for help on the old one they said i had to pay more money because i had paid for two years on this new one and if i wanted help on the old one they were going to charge me more. i finely got most of one year refunded. and said i had used them for help on this computer so they wont give a refund. even for awhile i called they said i had no account with them. when i told them i was going to tell my credit card i wanted a refund they wanted to try to help me again. my credit card said as long as they were trying to help they could not do much. i had no prove they gave me bad advice. i wont go into that part of it. now let me see what question i am working on. believe me i well pay hp more money for help then to sign up with them again. my husband and i don't have a contract with then. but the house phone is how he get message from the tenants and if some one is looking for a place to rent. his bosses even have certain control of his cell phone. right now have to stay with sprint cause his bosses call him on the cell a lot and to do that for free we have to stay with sprint. i well try to do some of what you sudject. but as i told you before the computer came from wallmart and it is to late to take it back to the store. it a could computer but we have no chose at this time. because of my husband works we our stuck with dial up and sprint. ebay use to be easy. and both the buyer and the seller could give each other the feed back they deserve now they say to the seller you cannot give bad feedback at all to the buyer. witch puts the seller in a bad situation. my husband ans i thought we might sell some on ebay but not sure now. i do thank you very much for the last part of your email. doing computer kid can do easy i have a hard time with. but now that my brain is starting to think again i can do the computer right. i was on a lot of medication at one time and that can cloud up your brain. i do hope my reply is not to long like you said it is about the size of a novel. thanks one more time sham1313
