What'sTheBst SoftWare 4Translating Japanese Sites 2 English?

by Xenon-128 / August 16, 2015 12:03 AM PDT
First off google translate doesn't come close to cutting it. The software does not have to be 100% flawless, I don't expect it to be, I just want something that when a page is loaded up it is translated to a degree that I can understand what the web designer's message was. It doesn't have to be blatently obvious, I'm willing to be required to take context into account.

Re: translate

Machine translation is a quite difficult and imperfect thing. If Bing translate isn't better than Google translate, all you can do is search for an browser add-on for Chrome or Firefox that does better. Or an app on your smartphone in the app store for you phone.
But I doubt if you can find anything.

Here's an old funny thing. Translate this.

"Eats shoots and leaves."

I've yet to see any machine translator get that right because context before and after determines what it means.

-> This is your lesson that human translation still reigns.

Unsure if you are grasping what it all means.

I'm running into folk that demand solutions to the problem you noted as well as others. They often run off with some odd comment about "there should be a solution."

In the case of machine language translation it's a rather deep subject which I took a chip of ice off the tip of the visible part of a giant iceberg. Just one example that is fun to throw at machine translators to see what comes out.

Even machine translated text has to be taken with a lot of seasoning as you know it's not going to be context sensitive.

Here's my advice. If you use machine translation, put a footnote below that it was machine translated so the ready knows to look out for oddities.
