About the only time you should be getting a kernel panic in Linux is when there's a serious hardware problem. Packard Bell has changed owners several times since I last owned one in the 486 days, but I somehow doubt their quality has significantly improved since then. If anything, the trend with computers has been to go to cheap disposable systems.

The whole Pentium/Celeron D line was known for generating quite a bit of heat, so it might be a good time to make sure that all the fans in the system are cleared of any dust bunnies that may have accumulated over time. Hopefully that's all it is, because Linux kernel panics are usually a sign of bad things to come.
