whats the benefits of 64 bit instead of 32 bit?

I was looking at 64bit computers on Alienware and is 128 mb graphics card on a 64bit computer better then a 1024mb graphics card on a 32bit?

Is it better to go with a 64 bit if the comp will be used for 3d modeling, animation and graphic design?
