Wag The Dog!

In reply to: What You Need to Know About Gitmo

All the secrecy serves the propose of.... ?

And we gain by doing this In-Your-Face slap at the whole concept of The Rule Of Law by.... ?

Obviously we care nothing for diminishing the Great Satan propaganda selling points. This is a winning strategy with.... ?

The only logic that I can see for the whole GITMO thing is that some neo strategist foresaw a danger that there would be insufficient verbiage that could be labeled Bleeding-Heart. Therefor, create a situation with an appearance that can later be denied. "The absence of legality is NOT evidence of the existence of illegality." - Smirky Rumsfeld

Your linked editorial is nauseating. The implications of unpatriotic thought is a manufactured thing. Needlessly manufactured. It avoids all logic and serves only to feed certain preconceptions of the Culture War. Only one side is fighting The Culture War, by the way. The rest of us are only trying to carry on with our lives. We're not really into fighting back, so much. We're only trying to make a little sense of things and are constantly amazed at the interpretations that seem forever to bubble up from the inconceivable depths.

their own little patch and their pile of possessions, it's easy to make fun of everybody else. It's more difficult when you have empathy for the poor zhlub who just got laid off, lost his health insurance and maybe his pension and who has virtually no chance to be rehired anywhere but at WalMart.

who care about not aiding and abetting the enemy and destroying the morale of our troops in order to further a personal political agenda. (Would that agenda be in the same category as "their own little patch and their pile of possessions"?)

In reply to: Since conservatives don't really care about anything except

Conservatives have empathy Rob. Most of us believe of giving from our own pockets to help when folks fall on hard times rather than the cold hand of government handouts that only serve to further dependency and poverty.

Bull

What on earth does this tirade have to do with the subject at hand? It's sheer nonsense (as usual).

Not only do you not know what you are talking about, but it is a remarkable example of bigotry.

i hate to be the one to break the news, but you are!!

otherwise there would be 600+ vidoe clips of beheadings floating around the internet and lots 'n lots of empty beds at Gitmo

Again, that's moral relativism.

In reply to: ummmmmmmm

Why is it so hard to see that that's just not good enough?

The Rule of Law is what we are. It's our essence, our foundation and our pride. It is what we sacrifice for. It's what we encourage others to follow. It's why we're better than them.

Collapse -
What laws in particular do you think we're breaking?

In reply to: Again, that's moral relativism.

The whole situation at Gitmo has been addressed by the courts and modifed to comply. This is a non-issue at best; nothing but a club for our detractors to beat us with.

There is nothing wrong with what we are doing at Gitmo.

We're breaking the whole concept of law itself.

In reply to: What laws in particular do you think we're breaking?

Charges must be brought. The accused must be able to effectively speak to those charges. A ruling must be made.

No recourse to the law is the very thing that made it right to boot Saddam out.

These are enemy combatants, not pursesnatchers.

Several of them have had hearings and some released. This is NOT a criminal matter. Did German POWs in the US in WW2 have trials?

Sorry, but it's all perfectly legal whether you like it or not.

just a little of the middle east I would say living conditions on "Gitmo" are more than luxurious compared to what they are used to!
3 meals a day!. Shelter! Medical care! The only thing they are missing is filth to wallow in and a minaret to bow to. I think it is time for the do gooder bleeding hearts to understand that by their standards these people are being treated exceedingly well!!!!!

So Rove was more accurate than DK thinks ;-)

In reply to: We're breaking the whole concept of law itself.

No Bob, terrorists are not entitled to the American judicial process. Nor do these detainees qualify in any way, shape or form for the protections of the Geneva Conventions although in the vast majority of cases they are treated better than entitled to be under them.

In reply to: So Rove was more accurate than DK thinks ;-)

No hodge-podge "OopsieDoodle" band-aids like we've got now. No reap-the-shriek and play all innocent. No overs. No Mulligans. Just fergarshksakes pick one! That's about all.
