what wrong with my Lexmark z 600

I just purchased a Lexmark z600 color printer (SN 07364401787 2004/09), but it will not install onto my HP Vectra (sn US94556205) w/ windows 2000 professional.

When I try to install the printer an error that says: c:\WINNT\system32\autoexec.nt and it says something about MS/DOS or windows not being compatible.

I am not pc literate, therefore, I do not know what this means.

I called the Lexmark company and they said that there is a problem with the USB port. I only have 2 USB ports in the rear of my pc.

Can you help? I do not know what to do. PLease PLease please assist in this matter.

This is a pretty common sign that you have spyware. Half of it probably included with the crap HP ships with the system.

Download some of the freeware anti-spyware programs and see about cleaning up that mess first.

And if it's not too late, take the Lexmark back and get either a Cannon or Epson. Lexmark inkjets are really poor quality in construction. They tend to stop working randomly and without warning. Not to mention Lexmark charges through the nose for ink carts, and has been actively seeking to block people from making both refill kits and competing carts. HP printers just have horrible drivers as a general rule, otherwise they're great.
