Question

What windows XP drivers for ATI Radeon X600 graphics card?

Feb 22, 2016 9:50AM PST

I have purchased this card - ATI Radeon X600 128MB PCI-E DVI Graphics Card
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141551113486?_trksid=p2057872...

But I am having problems finding the latest driver for Windows XP. I believe this card may have been made for Dell. I found some drivers released for Dell, but I am using this with an Asus motherboard and they don't work. I have also looked on AMD webstie but can't find anything. Does anyone have a link for the latest Windows XP drivers for this graphics card?

Just sharing.

I can't be specific here but I found XP to be problematic in this area. Be sure all updates are installed before chasing down drivers.

OK, you're at XP SP3. Now you must have 4GB or LESS RAM! I'll take it you have the usual 32 bit XP SP3. Now you start with the motherboard chipset driver package. This is down BEFORE other drivers.

Next you install the MSUAA (I don't see machine details so I'll take it as if this applies.)
Then the audio drivers. If your system requires MSUAA and you skip that step then almost always you get no sound and get to do over.

Now we are ready for video drivers. There's also an issue with some ATI cards and some boards. They never work together but I shared this in case you forgot how to install drivers after XP SP3 is running.

thanks for suggestions but

Thanks for the suggestions, but I already have the motherboard drivers installed and visited the AMD suport site, to which Catalyst Software Suite does nothing.

Some cards never worked with some boards. Try other cards. I swap from ATI to Nvidia when this happens.

But let's check out how you know the motherboard drivers are correct. I'll lead with we know that button in Windows "Driver Update" is borked

My motherboard is Asus P5GD1-FMS
Feb 22, 2016 1:50PM PST

My motherboard is Asus P5GD1-FMS, which I believe came branded as a Fujitsu PC originally. I can't find the exact drivers for this board, so have been using the standard windows drivers.

Then you need to dig deeper.

but it is not the P5GD1 it is the P5GD1-FMS. Note the FMS

but it is not the P5GD1 it is the P5GD1-FMS. Note the FMS. I think the FMS refers to the special Fujitsu build.

There will definitely be XP motherboard drivers as the computer is about 10 years old and came with XP originally.

May not matter.

When it comes to chipsets I've found if it's a Grantsdale then I can use the Grantsdale drivers. I don't know how much exposure you've had on driver hunts but hope this helps.

those drivers do not work, but I think motherboard okay
Feb 22, 2016 3:43PM PST

those drivers do not work, the install utility just crashes half way through. I think everything on the motherboard side is okay. The sound works, LAN works, USB works etc. The only thing that I have an exclamation mark on in device manager is the graphics. Once I get this right everything will be perfect.

Now there's a clue.

When I see the Intel driver install crash I'm off checking for OS issues. Remember I don't see anything more than this is a Grantsdale. So Intel should be OK A crash on driver install is telling us more about this install.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the install
Feb 22, 2016 4:13PM PST

I dont think there is anything wrong with the install, all other software works perfectly and the system is 100% stable. When I say crash the software driver install says something like unable to install and exits midway.

As I say the system is 100% stable and has never crashed.

I saw two downloads for the card. driver pack and Catalyst.

We're reaching the end of the road here.
