In reply to: What will I do with WARNINGS in avira?tnx

w/ scan pointing to either Host File listed bad guys or List/quarantine in Bit-Defender's files??

Have you had OTHER Scanners on machine that have been "un-installed" but not actually completely removed from machine (Spybot/Adaware or other)??

Hopefully someone using Avira will have a better idea about "warnings" with no further description or path to same! Good Luck! Grin

i remember

In reply to: Strictly a W.A.G But... Possibly False Positive...

Now I remember it started when I downloaded a video from limewire then suddenly when I tried to preview it, avira detect a malware so what i did is to delete it. Now the video is corrupted. then I cancelled it because avira detect a virus.

Then The report alarmed me, freaking that my systems was infected. i started to have a complete scan using avira, and upon completing the scanning, it appears to have 5 WARNINGS no virus detected. After that, I tried to scanning using BitDefender but the result is clean. Then I tried to run Spybot, then the result is clean.

After 3 hours, I tried to scan my laptop using avira again but on this point the WARNINGS becomes 180 which causes me to be alarmed. That is why I'm looking for solutions with this.

Can this affect my system? How would I get rid of this? What should I do in order to lessen my WARNINGS into 2 which is usually detected? Can you help me.

Anyway this is the report prior to have a 180 WARNINGS.

what should I do with those WARNINGS?

In reply to: WARNING] The file could not be opened!

What should I do in order to lessen those WARNINGS and return it to normal it is usually 2 WARNINGS only? can u give me ways/ step in order to get rid with that?

Can that be a reservoir or can lead to Virus or any threats?

Please help me. I don't have any Idea with this.

Latest Avira Scan Looks Right & OK. I Note "Rootkit"....

In reply to: What will I do with WARNINGS in avira?tnx

detection disabled in scan. Does the Free Personal version not include Anti-Rootkit? If included, did you purposely disable it?

If NOT included in Avira Free, You can download & run one from F-Secure called "Blacklight" Anti-Rootkit. It's Free & 'tho labeled as "Beta",
(which I normally avoid like the plague), in the several years & many updated versions, I have NEVER found a single problem using it.
Nor has it ever reported a rootkit found (a good thing, I suppose !).

It comes with a temporary free license for home use good until they put out an updated version which then has another extended license.

You can get it from below link. I always save to "My Docs" & at start of download, I rename the file to something different(just an extra precaution to fool malware into not recognizing the name). Example re-name to xraymay08.exe & then put in a new folder called Blacklight.
I include the download date in the file name so I can easily tell how old it's getting. When NEW version is released, it gets listed here under that days "Updates" thread. Take about 3 minutes to run 1xT every 2 weeks or when suspicious symptoms observed.

Download Blacklight: http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/
Main Overview page: http://www.f-secure.com/security_center/

These days a rootkit detector is a pretty important thing to have as normal scanners won't find them (after installing, they erase their entry path).

Limewire & other p2p sources OFTEN have infected files for download.
If you do use such, be sure NOT to open 'Til AFTER you have "right click scanned" the file(s) with AV & AS protectors!!!

If all (including Blacklight show clean & you're still worried, you can try various "online" scanners for an extra backup opinion since they'll have up to the last minute defs & if your home detectors have been attacked & corrupted giving false all clear you'll find out.

Good Luck!! Grin

Re: What will I do with WARNINGS in Avira

In reply to: What will I do with WARNINGS in avira?tnx

Ernie..

When you origianlly showed 2 warning's, did you have the report level set to "default"? Did you by any chance, change it to a "higher report level"? With a higher report level, you're going to find more warnings reported. Another reason for the change of numbers, might be due to the amount of applications running during the scan. It's why it's suggested at the Avira Support Forum, to occasionally scan in Safe Mode.

If there's ever any question about it, you can always post a scan log at the Avira Forum.

http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Board&boardID=135

You said in your original post, "I also use bitdefender but there is no virus detected." I presume you used their online scanner and don't have two A/V's installed. If so, I would uninstall one of them. "More is not better" in this case.

With all due respect, I'd be more concerned about using LimeWire than I would about the warnings. But.. I guess you know of LimeWire's reputation by now. Wink Consider it "only my opinion" and nothing more.
