what waterproof phone to buy?

I am going on an outdoor cycling expedition trip, and am looking for cheap phones with the following features:

1) Waterproof without the need of a case
2) excellent battery life

I don't care about anything else, such as camera etc, as I am carrying professional camera gear. I simply need something for reading emails, basic web browsing, skype, emergency phone calls. Specs are not important, but I won't compromise on battery life and being waterproof. Happy to consider Chinese phones, or used phones off Ebay.

Just need something as cheap as possible which meets my requirements

There is no such thing as a "waterproof" phone. Even the most rugged phone is water resistant up to a certain depth and for a certain length of time.

I've seen a few claim to withstand a dunk but none will sit at 100 feet for a day.

For now your best bet is some case to protect what you have.

Have noted a model. I don't note such because the market moves so fast and what I can't buy here may not be where you are.

So set your price range, collect models and whittle it down to the winner.

I was at Niagara Falls and wanted to take pictures. The Zip Lock baggie worked then and in other wet situations.

In my opinion Samsung galaxy S9+ is the best phone which you are searching for. It is waterproof and its battery life is good enough. The main thing about this phone is functions and camera. Its the best phone i have seen up to now.
I have read lots of articles about Samsung Galay S9+ and I found there is no any defect about that phone. You can buy one for you. Its the best phone.

you say "The main thing about this phone is functions and camera" But for the most part I don't care about camera and functions. In fact I don't even care if the camera is broken! My main criteria is something with a submergence rating and decent battery life. I don't care about anything else, and am happy to consider used phones from Ebay.

Current flagship phones of leading brands could be great choices, but since you specifically said you're looking for a cheap one, I suggest you look for some from Sony. Sony Xperia M4 Aqua, for example, has waterproof capabilities but won't break the bank.

I would recommend you the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active. It has IP68 rating and 4000mah battery. It also has some other cool features like wireless charging. You can find it on Amazon for around 180$ (used). Hope I helped...

Though most of the smartphone companies claim their smartphone to be waterproof but the reality is that there is nothing as such waterproof. To some extent high end smartphones stay waterproof but with increased water depth they are no longer waterproof.

Ideal thing to do is to opt for Samsung S9 and cover it with a plastic pouch. There are several online store which sell such pouches. Amazon is the best destination.

Cheap outdoor equipment you may need

if you don't care anything else, just the water -proof all some strong protective for some serious enviroment. maybe the professional outdoor IP68 mobile meet your needs.
if you want a cheap and use as a outdoor equipment, recommend :ioutdoor T2.
