Question

What to do after HP Secure Erase

by mbarn995 / May 27, 2015 2:00 AM PDT

Hello,
I have an HP ProBook 450 g1 laptop that I am trying to install Windows 8 on. I have Windows 8 all ready to go on a flash drive, but I cannot install it because it cannot see my hard drive. I previously did an HP Secure Erase before this thinking it would only clean my computer, not remove everything. Does anyone know what I can do? Thank you!

Go get a bootable standalone CD/USB of GPARTED and use that to see if the HDD is seen as well as remove any partitions you see in GPARTED. What GPARTED is, how to make and use is all over the web.

After getting GParted, be sure to have it set the partition type as GPT if this is to be the only OS installed on the hard drive.

If you want a dual boot with some other system, then install it first and then windows 8 will also install as MBR instead of demanding GPT.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
