General discussion

What to choose?

I am looking for a Camcorder under 1000.00 that is hard drive, SD or mini Dv. It must have a 20x Zoom minimum. Hopefully it will have USb port for connecting to pc. Looking for something of QUALITY and user friendly menu and controls. We need it to take outdoor video primarily and it needs to be tough and well built.optional shoe for mic & light would be nice. This will be used to create mpegs for my website. Any reccomendations would be greatly apreciated as i am more confused now after 3 days searching on the internet.I could care less about digital stills as we have a high end camera for that.

I have seen that most camcorders in the 1000$ range do NOT offer optical zoom better than 10X.
Zoom of 20X or 30X is only seen on lower cost models.
Therefore you either need to accept a 10X zoom or go for a cheaper model with higher zoom but lower video performance.
