Resolved Question

What tablet should I get?

Nov 28, 2014 5:39AM PST

I am thinking about getting a tablet. My needs would be to read : PDF magazine files, DOC, TXT, email, Facebook and maybe books. Are tablets capable of reading these file types? If so which ones with about a 9-10" screen or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thank you.

iOS, Android, Windows?

I think most tablets now can do what you need so it really depends on your budget on what to purchase. If you are more inclined to personalize your tablet I think Android products are much reliable, otherwise iPads are your best bet (of course since only Apple products runs in iOS)

I don't have an iPad but I do have an Acer Iconia and an Asus Transformer laptop running in Windows that I can also use as a tablet. I use them both for reading and surfing online, emailing and so on.

Not that it really matters, but I'm wondering why you would only want to read emails and not send them. Same (more or less) for posting on Facebook. And no Youtube or Instagram? Those seem to be rather popular.

And why text files? I only see programmers being interested in text files. And my guess is you aren't one (a programmer wouldn't call Facebook a file type).

Mostly for reading files. Especially PDF's of magazines and a USB port for copying files unto the tablet so I can use the tablet while my wife is using the laptop.

I'm thinking the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (with the keyboard option.) I am guessing here what your needs are exactly but let's start with one of the most capable of the bunch.

Thank you for your input. Does this one have a USB port for importing?

This must be a closely guarded secret. That is, I wonder if the maker and sellers are hiding such detail.

If the maker/seller isn't telling.

If you're used to Android then might as well get an iPad 2 - so you could learn and see if an iOS is right for you! But I'm good with my Samsung tab.

Nexus Line

I had the good fortune of getting my hands on the Nexus 7 before they were released, loved it. The new Nexus 9 is an upgrade, and while I haven't bought one for myself yet...its going to be my next purchase.
