I bought this unit as soon as Apple offered them in 2002.

dependable and a joy to use.

I use Two Monitors!
Aug 18, 2005 10:54PM PDT

I have always had one monitor up until i got an LCD. The LCD is a Magnavox and I am not sure what the CRT is. Just for fun,I hooked the LCD up tp the other monitor port on my computer and eve since, i have left it on. This way i can do more easily byhaving better visibility of my programs. I had to toake off the LCD once, and i didn't like having one screen anymore because it looked so squished.

This is a 17" flat screen monitor purchased in 2002. It has great color and you can work for hours on it with burning your eyes out unlike my previous monitor.
It was a big improvement over the (1995) 15" curved screen I had before, which always had glare from windows or lights. My next monitor will probably be a LCD which doesn't take up as much desk real estate.

What display resolution do you use?
Aug 18, 2005 11:45PM PDT

It's not so much what size monitor that people use that matters to me, it's what display resolution do you use? I am an IT Manager at a company and recently upgraded several old 14-inch monitors to 17-inch for several of our users. What amazed me is that no matter how big a monitor some of our users have, they still want 800x600 resolution on their display. I have poor vision and wear glasses but love 1024x768 because you can get more "real-estate" on the screen to display stuff, like bigger spreadsheets. Even many web pages are now defaulting to 1024x768. So I asked the users and found out that many are as "blind" as I am and they don't want to give up those BIG icons and large type because they can't read it. How many of you are so blind that you still use 800x600. That's a poll I'd like to see.

My wife is that way.... When we had a 17" monitor, I couldn't go higher than 800x600. When we upgraded to a 19" LCD, she allowed me to switch to 1024 x 768. Here at work, I prefer 1280x1024. That may be why my eyesight is so bad....

Its the same for me too. I prefer 1280x1024 but have to settle for 1152x864 to save my eyes.

At home I have a Samsung SyncMaster 213T (21.3") and I love it! Not only does it tilt forward and backward, it swivels so that you can put the long side up and down.. cuts down on scrolling in long documents and adjusting the height is a snap. I wish I had one at the office too. I have a Gateway 19" there and its good too.

What size monitor?
Aug 18, 2005 11:49PM PDT

I just purchased 3 flat screen LCD's: Tired of the bulk and weight of the larger CRT's..I responded to Tiger's killer ads and rebates. I have the following:

1) A 19'' LCD.

2) A 17'' LCD.

3) A 15'' LCD.

With the exception of the 15" they had no dead pixels and worked flawlessly right out of the box. Gads, I should have switched a long time ago. I am not a gamer. Some of the concerns gamers have do not affect me. The colors are crisp and vibrant and on each of the 3 I have only used the auto adjust feature, although all of them have feature laden on screen menus for those who need to tinker. I use the speakers on the monitors until I need the kick butt 6 speaker surround sound with tooth filling rattling from a sub woofer I can barely pick up. Occasionally I switch to it when I watch a DVD in our puter room. There are 3 of us in here counting the 8 year old. She is restricted to a headset. (Because we SAID so!)

I now have 3 spare CRT monitors up to a 19'' which work beautifully, but don't fit in with the renovation of the puter room. I repainted it, and made desks from 24''wide sliding doors I had stored away in the shed. (I dismantled and stored in the attic the huge, umwieldy computer workstations we had in the room which placed us nearly elbow to elbow.) It is a cool place to be in now, and at times we are all 3 in there happily banging away. These new LCD monitors now provide room for more soft drinks, extra bags of chips, and necessary essentials. How'd we ever live without them?

gotta go with flatscreen
Aug 19, 2005 12:12AM PDT

Like television, which is perhaps 2 years behind in terms of market demand and pricing, flatscreen is the only way to go now. Lighter, more versatile, and certainly more space-efficient, I can't imagine why anyone would buy a new system which includes a bohemoth with a tube. It's absolutely worth the extra cost.

Oh, I have a 19" Dell 1704FPV.
