Others want PQ. As to the best color depth that would be plasma. While there is some question about static images so far plasma (if you can find it) wins.
As to beyond 1080, there's 4K but you would have to really amp up the GPU section.
As to 3D, http://www.thewrap.com/legend3d-founder-99-percent-of-3d-is-embarrassing/ covers a few points. Most of it embarrassing.
Gamers sometimes hunt for that elusive 120Hz display. Given your post I'm unsure which direction to head. PQ or gaming?

I use my computer almost entirely for watching YouTube music videos, however, I also watch blueray disks, dvds, and play video games on it. (its a realitiviley high end gaming computer)
I want a monitor with a resolution of at least 1080p (is there anything better?) and the best color depth possible. What monitor type is best for this? And what is the highest refresh rate that will mater?
(and are 3d monitors just a gimck or are they worth looking into?)
also is there anything else I should look for when buying a monitor?
My pc hardware incase it matters:
My video card is a Nvidia GeFroce GTX 780 I have an Ultra fast hard drive, a 4 core processor @ 3.8 GHz per core and16 GB of DDR3 Dual Channel RAM.
