what should I do to get the wifi in my hp laptop to work ??

here is the problem I have a really week to no signale,
sometimes it works fine but only for like five minutes, while other people sitting next to me don't have the same problem.
but when people share their connection and am sitting next to them I get a really fast internet connection but I need to sit right next to them or else it wont work.

YEAH am thinking of buying a wifi stick next; but I have a year garentied so am going to see the problem with them the low range of wifi really bothers me am going to tell them to give me a new one if the problem is from the hardware itself.
