General discussion

What should i choose?

Feb 4, 2009 4:06AM PST

I'd like to buy a new laptop. I would like to buy a laptop which i shall use for programming (nothing platform dependent), office, movies, photo editing, internet surfing etc. I have 2 major choices, either a macbook, with its stability and great OS or one of the 2 hp laptops which are better with performance. My main question is if the macbook is really worth its price comparing to the 2 other laptops and has advantages even though it may lack some of the performance the HPs have.

MacBook (white version) - $1299

# 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
# 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x2GB
# NVIDIA Geforce 9400M
# 250GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
# SuperDrive 8x (DVD

You didn't give value to the Apple OS.

So let's remove that one.

The others are your typical GAMER DESKTOP replacements with short battery times so it comes to a tie on the second 2. Just a matter of picking which screen you like.

Neither will be very portable or 'laptoppy'.

I recommend that you use the laptop

with the OS that you are developing for so you don't need emulators and other things to test your apps. Also there are more tools for developers out there with windows machines. Most developers use Windows machines if they are developing for windows machines. Another consideration is are these Web apps which run in browsers or executables like windows apps with .exe extension.

I'm not in the market so your advice should be directed to the original poster and not to me.
