General discussion

what should i buy?

Mar 26, 2005 9:16AM PST

ok, heres the deal. i am a college student and need something that can open and edit office documents. also, wireless internet access is something i would like to have. the last thing i would like is something that plays music and videos, which is a must. i would like a palm, but i dont know too much about either to be sure, all i know is that pocket pcs are better capable to play different video formats w/o converting them. and finally, this should be priced between 0 - 275ish. if someone can give me some good products, ide really appreciate it. (ive narrowed it down to something from hp, dell, or even the tungsten E, but tungsten E doesnt play video w/o converting it)

i dont see where i can go to get this demo you speak of, mainly because dell doesnt sell in stores. ive narrowed my decision down to the dell axim 50 w/o wifi, and the dell axim 30 w/ wifi. the price difference is minimal, but the 50 seems overrall better, considering that you could hook wifi up to it, but for an extra charge. im awestruck at this point and any advice to help contrast between the two would help, also, thank you for your abrupt reply, it goes appreciated.

Many are shocked by the formatting loss when the document is edited on the PDA. The reason is very simple. Word drives a lot of it's formatting from fonts and PRINTER DRIVERs. These PDA's have no printer drivers so the formatting vanished in a poof of haze.

The poor editor then gets to go back over the document to format it as they intended.

However with the small keyboard, I've found my PDA to be nice for longish text entries for use later back on the laptop or PC.

let me get this straight
You want to work in Word (so you probably need a keyboard)
Play Videos/Music (so you also need a big SD card)
You want wireless
to do all this you will also need an extra battery.

You are gonna have a hard time doing that for under 275 (if you include the big SD card and keyboard in that price- a 1gb sd card is about $70 on ebay and the battery will be at least $20 on ebay).
I will be buying a system to do all that but video and am planning on spending $500 for everything. Check out the Dell Axim 624 version.
