What's you gadget disaster?!

May 28, 2006 10:22PM PDT

Probably a lot of us had a gadget disaster, mostly on the childhood, I can remember a few:

When I got my first Atari it was 110v, I plugged it into a 220v plug, the console not only screwd up but it also started to melt inside... Sad

When I was around 10 to 12 I decided that I should open things to see how it worked. I broke up a few clocks and radios in my house, the problem is that one day I thought I needed a challenge and I opened apart the TV. Grounded for 2 weeks Happy

And the one I'll never forget happened last year. I bought a TV to my bedroom. It's pretty commom to split the payment here, so I split the 1200 in 6, paying 200 a month for the next 6 months. After the 1st month some burglers broke into my building and stole the TV (and everything else), wich made me still pay 200 a month for a TV that was stolen. Sad Sad Sad

Stop TVs getting stolen
May 29, 2006 12:41AM PDT

I have the perfect solution to prevent TV's getting stolen.

Our main TV is a 54" Rear projection tv!!! It's about 10 years old and it's made of wood!! Any burglers that can get that thing through the door deserves to keep it!!

Another advantage is that it's got more scart sockets than i'll every need

I hope my parents aren't reading...

A few years back I manages to accidentally end up with my cell phone in the microwave as well as a microwave meal. Needless to say a few days later I was filling out an insurance claim form.

The next incident comes on frame 184 of a movie I was making with a brand new camcorder. The **** launched a soda can at me and it hit and damaged the lens! Sad

I also own a PDA which fell out of a window. Went swimming with a cell phone in my pocket. The list goes on...

One day the insurance company will say enough is enough and will not replace any of it!

Worst gadget disasters

1. I gave my brand-new laptop a full cup of capucchino. It was brand new at the time, a cute little IBM (Pentium 100, 32 megs of ram, 2 gig HDD). Fortunately, IBM honoured the warranty and replaced the keyboard and motherboard.

2. Forgot my laptop's AC adaptor in a hotel room 7000 kilometers away from home. I had to replace it for 180 dollars and two pounds of shame (the dude at the HP service center must still be laughing).

3. My dog stole and buried my then-700 dollar phone!
I had purchased a Nokia 8800 (chromed, bling, looked AWESOME), I left it on the cofee table and when it rang, my rottweiller thought it was one of her toys and took it to the back yard and buried it. took me two days to find it.

4. Last but not least, I accidentally dropped my zippo lighter on my toshiba notebook, which had a very exposed HDD placement, the head landed and the HDD died. god bless backups!

I love my doggy to bits BUT he sure does not get on with tech!

He dropped his meaty bone on a $5000 laptop computer which was not mine! I almost killed the dog.

Also, with a wide angled Sony lens I borrowed my dog used it as a chew toy!

gadget disaster

not really a gadget disaster, but kinda.
my pc was about 4 years old and after doing all the upgrades it could handle, i decided to buy a new pc.
i got the new one home and got it up and running. i then went to hook up the photo printer and scanner (both better then 4 years old) and could not get them to work. so after several calls to their makers and several attempts to upgrade the software i gave up.
the good news is that i got to go out and buy new stuff.

Receiver that was a little too receptive
May 29, 2006 4:44AM PDT

hmm, it's tough to describe the setup on this disaster.

I was rewiring my parent's stereo and was pulling a cable out of the ceiling to reach the reach speakers. Below was a heater plugged into a wall socket, unfortunately it wasn't completely plugged in and there was about a sixteenth of an inch exposed.

The cable, which had an exposed end, swung into contact with the plug like Indiana Jones hoping over a pit. The cable was plugged in and the jolt blew the receiver.

I made a powerpoint on Geneolgy for school on my laptop. So I brought it in, plugged it into the classroom projector, and sure enough my worst nightmare happens: porn pop-ups. I'll let you draw your own conclusions as to how much trouble I got in...

LCD Monitor..
May 29, 2006 12:21PM PDT

I started taking apart gadgets when I was about 7 or 8. It wasn't long after that when we got our first LCD display and I basically took a blade and tried to peel away the screen. Yeah, that didn't go over too well with my dad
